Meanwhile, in Mariupol...

The National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War presented a photo exhibition "Meanwhile in Mariupol" in two Swedish museums - the Armémuseum (Stockholm) and the Flygvapenmuseum (Linköping), on March 3 and 4 respectively.

The exhibition presents photographs by journalist Vyacheslav Tverdokhlib, who was born in Mariupol. During the blockade, he lived in a basement and documented the events until he finally left the city by foot. Despite the mortal risk, all the materials were saved.

Six Ukrainian women who were lucky to escape from hell at the beginning of March 2022 shared their stories of the first days of the siege and occupation. They are currently in Sweden. Their memories became the most accurate comments for the photo of the ruins.

The “voice” of the project is the audio-diary of an eight-year-old Yehor from the besieged city. A film based on his diary entries is also presented at the exhibition.

This important project was implemented with the support of the Swedish National Museum of Military History Armémuseum and specifically - its director general Helene Rånlund, with the help of Nordic Ukraine Forum and the Ukrainian Community in Östergötland (Ukrainska Föreningen Östergötland).

The exhibition is on display from March 4 to August 31, 2023 simultaneously in two cities.
