An important step has been made on the way of cultural partnership between Ukraine and Sweden. The trilateral Memorandum of understanding has been concluded between the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War, the National Swedish Museums of the Military History and the National Archives of Sweden.
This historic document for the sphere of culture has been signed as a result of the work trip of Director General of the Museum Yurii Savchuk to Sweden in order to coordinate the preparations of the international exhibition under the working name “Sweden – Ukraine: Crossroads of History (1000 Years)”. This project is planned in the Swedish Army Museum in Stockholm in February 2024 in order to reveal the millennial history of political, diplomatic, military and cultural contacts between two counties.
The Memorandum is purposed to develop the broad cooperation between the parties in different vectors: arrangement of new exhibitions, exchange of artifacts for exposure, organization of conferences and meetings, exchange of experience of research and educational activities. The Memorandum is valid for three years and can be extended.
It is important to note that the National Swedish Museums of Military History and the National Archives of Sweden actively support the War Museum in the cultural arena from the early days of the russian invasion, in particular through realization of the joint exhibitions on the current war, exchange programs and provision of the humanitarian assistance that is crucial for preservation of the museum collections in this hard time.
The team of the Museum is proud to be a part of the cultural cooperation between Sweden and Ukraine, which has deep traditions and is an important component of Ukraine’s integration to the European civilizational space. The concluded Memorandum is an undeniable precursor of the new Ukrainian-Swedish projects on the horizons of the international partnership between our countries.
