To mark International Museum Day, the War Museum invites you to attend its special program on Saturday, May 16.
Interactive activities, themed tours, and workshops—choose the events that appeal to you.
14:00–18:00 – Museum Children’s Studio.
Where? Main Building, Hall of Glory.
A session where your child will learn about the uniforms of the Ukrainian army during the Liberation Wars of 1917–1921. Recreating the attire of Ukraine’s freedom fighters through puzzles, turning classic paintings by Ukrainian artists into your own masterpieces using creative templates, creating a patriotic paper cut-out, and testing your knowledge with crosswords – all this awaits you in the Museum’s Children’s Studio.
14:00 – Interactive Quest «Detectives in the Arsenal».
Where? Military Equipment Area.
You will receive “expedition letters” with descriptions of tanks, aircraft, artillery and missile systems. But there is a problem: the texts contain deliberate mistakes cunningly inserted by an “unknown saboteur”. Your task is to correct the mistakes, armed with your own wit and attentiveness.
15:00 – Curator’s Guided Tour of the «Values» Exhibition.
Where? Main Building.
«Values» is a joint exhibition project of the Museum and the Lobortas jewellery house about the spiritual foundations that have united different generations of the Ukrainian people through the centuries: freedom, dignity, memory and an unbreakable capacity for resistance. Project manager Valerii Chalyi will conduct an author’s guided tour and tell the story behind the creation of each work first-hand.
15:00 – Game «Museum Hide and Seek».
Where? Main Building.
In the space of the exhibition «War: Inverse Perspective», you will be able to test your observation skills by studying artworks, creating quick sketches using a guide, and exploring the exhibition from a new, personal perspective.
16:00 – Integration Location «Secrets of the Museum Armoury».
Where? Main Building.
In the space of the «Time Capsule» exposition, we will for the first time show unique examples of small arms stored in the museum’s collections. We will talk about the history of their creation, combat use and their impact on the evolution of military engineering thought.
17:00 – Museum Game «Unity Step by Step».
Where? Exhibition Centre.
In the format of an exciting quest at seven thematic locations, we will follow the path from the origins of Ukrainian statehood and its symbols to the grand moment of the unification of Ukrainian lands within an independent united state in 1919. The exhibition «Sign on the Shield» will tell about the fates of prominent figures in Ukrainian history and the richness of our culture, helping to better understand the path of our nation to spiritual and state unity.
17:00 – Thematic Tour «Defence of Kyiv Region 2022».
Where? Exhibition Centre.
Come to the guided tour of the exhibition «Ukraine – Crucifixion» to see with your own eyes authentic evidence of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people to the Russian invaders on the approaches to the capital of Ukraine. We will recall the chronicle of the defence of Kyiv and the victorious battles of our defenders, in which they stopped the enemy horde in the key battle of the War for the Independence of Ukraine.
19:00 – Evening Historical Quest «Paths of Occupied Kyiv».
Where? Complex Grounds.
Ausweises, propaganda newspapers, food coupons – all these are attributes of the Nazi occupation of Kyiv, behind which lie the tragedies of hundreds of thousands of residents. During the quest across the territory and exhibitions of the Museum, you will learn about the realities of life in the Ukrainian capital during one of the most difficult periods in the city’s history, as well as how underground fighters resisted the occupiers with cunning even in seemingly hopeless conditions.
Admission to all of the Museum’s exhibitions and special events is free.
