A lecture on the liberation struggle in Luhansk took place at the War Museum. On November 20, 2024, a public lecture titled "Luhansk – the Land of Ukrainian Patriots" was held at the War Museum.
Hero of Ukraine, museum worker Volodymyr Zhemchuhov, introduced the guests to the stories of prominent figures in the Luhansk liberation movement and shared more about the modern partisan resistance to Russian aggression since 2014, as well as the activities of underground fighters in the occupied territories. Volodymyr also highlighted his own experience of fighting and being held in Russian captivity.
Senior researcher at the Museum, Valentyna Smirnova, spoke about the Resistance Movement in Luhansk during the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917–1921, the activities of the OUN (Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists) in Luhansk, and the underground movement during World War II.
Former captive of Russian militants, Oleksiy Syzonovych, shared his memories of the sabotage operations he participated in and highlighted previously unknown facts about the partisan movement in Russian-occupied territories.
During the event, guests actively participated in discussions on current topics. Among the attendees was Oleksandra Lyashenko, who gifted the Museum a book with commemorative signatures from the authors of "In the Fire Ring", which tells the story of the heroic defense of Luhansk Airport and the surrounding settlements. We thank Ms. Oleksandra for this valuable copy, which will now be preserved in the museum’s library.
We invite you to join our museum events to learn more and discuss with us the important chapters of the Ukrainian people’s struggle for freedom and independence.
