Shadows Across the River

Exhibitions and presentations / Our partners / 15 April 2025

On April 15, 2025, at 16:00, the Main Building of the War Museum will host a screening of the investigative documentary about russian terror in the occupied Kherson region titled "Shadows Across the River" (by Danylo Mokryk).

From the first days of the full-scale invasion, a significant part of the Kherson region, including the village of Hornostaivka in the Kakhovka district, fell under the control of the russian army. In the former local station of the National Police in this settlement, the occupiers set up a torture chamber, where they held both former servicemen and civilians.

The investigative team from The Kyiv Independent succeeded in identifying several individuals who died in this torture chamber, as well as members of the occupation “police” responsible for the torture and murder of Kherson region residents. It was then that the idea of creating an investigative documentary was born.

At the heart of the film’s plot is the story of the murder of 28-year-old Hornostaivka resident Ruslan Rusnak, a veteran of the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO). He was abducted by russian occupiers in November 2023 and tortured to death in the former police station.

During the screening event, the creators of the film Danylo Mokryk, a journalist with the War Crimes Investigations Unit, and Yevheniia Motorevska, head of the unit (The Kyiv Independent), will speak about the film’s creation and the course of the investigation.

Free entry.
