“The Birth of the Ukrainian Army: The History of the First Bohdan Khmelnytsky Regiment”

Children at the Museum / Events / 18 April 2026

On April 18, 1917, at Syrets Field in Kyiv, 3,000 soldiers self-organized into the first Ukrainian regiment in central Ukraine. This event laid the foundation for the revival of a national army.

During the session, we will explore the origins of the Ukrainian military and the leaders of the 1917 military movement. The exhibition “Sign on the Shield,” featuring seals from the period of the Ukrainian struggle for independence and contemporary press materials, will help participants see these events through the eyes of their contemporaries and understand the challenges they faced in the fight for Ukrainian statehood.

Admission: Included in the museum ticket
