The First World War was of crucial importance for Ukraine. At its beginning, Ukrainian territory remained divided between two warring empires, and at its end, Ukrainians fought for their own independent state.
At the museum lecture “Ukrainians on the Frontlines of the First World War” you will learn about:
- the combat experience of our compatriots in the ranks of the armies of the russian and Austro-Hungarian empires;
- the creation of the first Ukrainian national military formation in modern times - the Legion of Ukrainian Sich Riflemen;
- the development of the Ukrainian armed forces during the 1917-1921 Liberation Movement.
The lecture will take place in the space of the “Sign on the Shield” exhibition, which will allow you to dive deeper into the era, get acquainted with authentic museum artefacts, and trace how the military tradition of the early twentieth century influenced the identity of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the twenty-first century.
