Brochure. Spivanyk Torbana z notamy. 1 issue

“Spivanyk Torbana z notamy” (The Torban Songbook with Sheet Music) is a Ukrainian musical collection that played an important role in popularizing Ukrainian song traditions, developing choral art, and raising national consciousness. The compiler of the collection, Yaroslav Yaroslavenko (born Vintskovsky), was a Ukrainian composer, choral conductor, publisher, and public figure. He composed numerous choral, vocal, and instrumental works, and arranged Ukrainian folk songs and Plast (scouting) hymns. In early 1905, he headed the publishing company “Ukrainska Nakladnya” which was later transformed into the “Torban” publishing house – the only music publisher in Western Ukraine at the time. Over the course of its existence, Torban published about 330 sheet music editions (operating as a cooperative from 1933). In 1927, the publishing house also released a collection of Sich Riflemen Songs. With the arrival of the Soviet regime in 1939, Torban was liquidated.

“Spivanyk Torbana z notamy” issue 100, volume 1, was produced using black-and-white typographical printing. It consists of 14 pages in a soft cover. Framed by a black rectangular border, the title page displays the publisher’s name, the author’s name, the title of the collection, distribution locations, and the publication date. This issue includes patriotic, rifle, and folk songs intended for school education, choral performances, and home music-making. The artistic design incorporates Ukrainian ornamental motifs, various fonts, and graphic elements. Each work features a unique design that reflects the emotions and passion intended by the author.
