Redefinition

20 October 2023

This is “one exhibit exhibition” featuring the Soviet emblem removed from the shield of the Motherland Monument. During 42 years, the symbol of the communist totalitarian regime had been marking the shield of Europe’s tallest sculpture.

The replacement of symbols on the monument became a milestone in decommunization of Ukraine’s public space and the main event in redefinition of the Memorial complex. In the summer of 2023, timed to the 32nd anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine, the work was done that seemed impossible for decades. Now this obsolete emblem is a part of history and the museum artifact, which does not define our present day anymore.
