The War Museum held a commemorative event marking the anniversary of the deaths of three State Emergency Service firefighters from Kyiv’s 18th State Fire and Rescue Unit. On 6 June 2025, while responding to the aftermath of a russian attack in the Solomianskyi district, Pavlo Yezhor, Andrii Remennyi and Danylo Skadin were killed by a repeated enemy strike. Like soldiers, they worked in wartime conditions under the constant threat of attacks, saving the lives of civilians.
The event brought together fellow rescuers, colleagues, relatives and loved ones of the fallen. The atmosphere was filled with sorrow, but also with sincere memories of those who are no longer with us.
“Today, through their daily work, each of our colleagues is adding new pages to the chronicle of the war for our independence. Sadly, tragedy often stands side by side with heroic service: in defiance of all international norms, rescuers have become targets for the enemy… It is difficult for me to comprehend that each of them lost his life in the prime of life, and this wound will always remain with us,” said Yurii Sukhomlyn, Deputy Head of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service in Kyiv.
Through memories, photographs and videos, those present were able once again to see the young men’s smiles and remember their passions, dreams and life journeys.
Danylo Skadin’s mother, Olha Kruchynina, remembered her son with pride, saying that he was a kind, sincere and responsible person. He played sport, led a healthy lifestyle and always sought to be an example to others.
Andrii Remennyi’s beloved, Ilona Chupryna, shared touching memories of him. Together, they had planned a future and dreamed of starting a family. During the event, Andrii’s mother, Valentyna Domarova, donated her son’s personal belongings to the Museum, including items from his rescuer’s protective equipment.
The most poignant moment came when Pavlo Yezhor’s daughter, Sofiia, could not hold back her tears as her father was remembered.
Pavlo Petrov, a representative of the press centre of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kyiv, shared his own memories of the events of 6 June as he recalled his comrades-in-arms. He was also wounded that day, when his friends were killed.
Other colleagues also remembered Danylo, Andrii and Pavlo, sharing memories and words of gratitude. For many, they will forever remain Heroes who gave their lives to save others.
The names of Pavlo Yezhor, Andrii Remennyi and Danylo Skadin are forever inscribed in the history of resilience and self-sacrifice. Their heroism is an example of courage that will live on in the hearts of their colleagues, loved ones and all those they saved.
