Today, it is difficult to imagine any country without a visual code – its state symbols. In Ukraine, these include, in particular, the small State Coat of Arms of Ukraine, the Tryzub, and the national currency – the hryvnia. These attributes began to take shape during the First Liberation Struggle in the early 20th century. But who created them, and what meaning did they hold for Ukrainians amid the turmoil of their fight for statehood?
The War Museum invites you to an interactive tour A Visual History of the First Liberation Struggle. Together, we will trace the impact of the works of prominent artists Vasyl Krychevsky and Heorhiy Narbut on the processes of Ukrainian state-building. How was this influence manifested, and where can we see artists’ legacy today? In addition, we will discuss the life and achievements of Mykola Bytynskyi, who gained renown in emigration.
We look forward to welcoming you at the exhibition space The Sign on the Shield!
