A Vytynanka Workshop Dedicated to the “Motherland Monument”

Excursions and interactive events / 8 May 2026

The “Motherland Monument” is one of the most recognizable symbols of Kyiv, which, during the full-scale russian-Ukrainian war, has become a true symbol of the resilience of the Ukrainian people.

It is to this symbol that our event on 8 May – on the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism – will be dedicated. We invite you to a workshop at the Museum to create a special vytynanka – a decorative artistic image of the “Motherland Monument” – that will adorn your home and become a personal talisman and an affirmation of strength.

Within the depths of ancient traditions lie knowledge about the meaning of broken and wavy lines, the symmetry of ornaments, and the symbolism of colors. Ukrainian decorative and applied arts – vytynanka, embroidery, pysanka-making, and weaving – have long been renowned for their deep symbolism and aesthetics, passed down through generations.

The Museum’s guides will tell you about the history of the creation and transformation of the monument, revealing new aspects of its image across different periods. At the same time, Svitlana Mikhno, an artisan and lecturer at the M. Boichuk Academy, will speak about the intricacies of the art of vytynanka and share her experience and professional insights.

This knowledge – and your own creation – are waiting for you!
