Servicemen and servicewomen of the National Guard of Ukraine (NGU) are defenders who prove daily that Ukraine’s resilience is built on people ready to act quickly, decisively, and selflessly.
The Museum of the War hosted the presentation of the publication “One Hundred NGU personnel – Heroes of Ukraine”—a collection of personal stories of warriors who stood up to defend the country in the ranks of the NGU and were honored with the high title of Hero of Ukraine, along with the Order of the “Gold Star”. Unfortunately, 64 defenders received this title posthumously.
Deputy Commander of the NGU, Brigadier General Valentyn Ostryzhnyi, presented the Heroes in attendance with author copies of the book, bearing the commemorative signature of the NGU Commander, Brigadier General Oleksandr Pivnenko. “You are writing the history of today, and your path is imprinted in this book. We want to pass on this memory to future generations in this way,” emphasized Brigadier General Valentyn Ostryzhnyi.
A pleasant surprise was the awarding of the “For Cooperation” medal to the Director General of the Museum, Yurii Savchuk. This is a departmental award of the NGU, presented for active assistance, partnership, support, and contribution to the development of interaction with the NGU, as well as for facilitating the strengthening of defense capabilities and security. Valentyn Ostryzhnyi emphasized that the Museum has become a symbolic place for the Ukrainian armed forces and the NGU in particular.
In his speech, Yurii Savchuk spoke about the unique experience of cooperation between the Museum and the NGU. Immediately after the de-occupation of the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, it was the NGU personnel who helped transport exhibits from museum expeditions to Kyiv. “It is an honor for us to host the Heroes of Ukraine at the Museum. You are an example of heroism, values, and service to the Motherland,” the Head of the Museum stressed.
The team of the project “Watch Ukrainian!” was also honored with medals. Over almost three years of systematic cooperation between the NGU and the Association “Watch Ukrainian!”, more than 300 film screenings have been held in NGU military units, educational, and medical institutions across 19 regions of Ukraine.
The event was hosted by the famous singer and NGU personnel Artem Loik, who performed his own songs and recited poignant poems.
We congratulate the NGU on the publication of this incredibly important book and thank them for their cooperation in implementing such socially significant initiatives!
