Buchenwald: exclusion, violence, memory

Children at the Museum / Events / 5 April 2025

"No concentration camp, except Auschwitz, has become such a symbol. And none has been as controversial". This is how German historian Eberhard Jäckel described the Nazi concentration camp Buchenwald in 1994.

During its existence, over 250,000 people passed through the camp, and about 56,000 perished within its walls. Hunger, disease, violence, and medical experiments on prisoners – this is only a small part of what Buchenwald inmates faced daily.

On April 4, 1945, American forces liberated the prisoners of this camp.

To mark the 80th anniversary of this event, the War Museum will host a thematic lecture. We will explore the system of concentration camps and the place Buchenwald held within it. We will also discuss the fates of prisoners whose belongings are part of our Museum collection.

The event is recommended for visitors aged 14 and older.

Price: 150 UAH (adults), 100 UAH (schoolchildren and students)
