On December 14, the Museum hosted a charity performance of the play "Call Sign "Sparrow" by the Kherson Regional Academic Music and Drama Theater named after Mykola Kulish.
A solo performance based on the play "Bad Roads" by Natalia Vorozhbyt immersed the audience in a love story that unfolded in the circumstances of the russian-Ukrainian war. Natasha, a soldier in the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the call sign "Sparrow," tells the story of her love that made her wear a uniform.
Actress Tetiana Provorova skillfully guided the audience through the pages of acquaintance, first kiss, and the life choice of a fragile woman—to stand up for the defense of the state side by side with her beloved. A sensual monologue and minimalist stage sets enhanced the perception of the plot.
The Kherson Theater team knows about the war firsthand: being under occupation, participating in the resistance movement, volunteering—all this became a part of their life and struggle, reflected in their work. And after the liberation of the city of Kherson—the theater’s doors open every day to support the townspeople despite regular shelling.
The Artistic Director and Director General of the theater, People’s Artist of Ukraine, Oleksandr Knyha, shared that on tour, the theater gathers scattered Kherson residents and talks about the war in the language of satire, which strengthens faith in victory. Oleksandr gifted the War Museum tickets for the premiere of the theater’s performance, which was to take place on February 24, 2022.
Yurii Savchuk, Director General of the War Museum, emphasized that the Kherson Theater impresses and inspires with its dedication to art. The Head of the Museum presented the theater team with a certificate as a sign of gratitude for their support and partnership.
