The War Museum invites you to the presentation of the bilingual publication «Чернігів у війні – 2022: голоси очевидців» / "Chernihiv During the War – 2022: Voices of Living Witnesses". The event will occur on December 21, 2024, at 14:00 in the "Ukraine – Crucifixion" exhibition space.
This book is a collection of eyewitness accounts of the russian occupation and siege of the city of Chernihiv and Chernihiv region in February-April 2022, who speak to the reader in different voices: civilian women and men of different ages, with various education and professional experience, with different religious beliefs and values. However, on the morning of February 24, 2022, all the narrators mentioned in this book became surprisingly similar because the laws of humanity violated by the russian occupiers united them around a common goal—to survive in spite of everything...
The initiator of the collection of eyewitness memories was Kateryna Lytvyn, PhD in History. The settlement to which Kateryna left Chernihiv at the beginning of the full-scale invasion was occupied for 36 weeks. After the deoccupation of the Chernihiv region, she felt the need to listen to the personal stories of Chernihiv residents about their experiences. Her initiative was supported by the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Chernihiv City Council and a group of researchers from various scientific institutions of Ukraine, who today have united in the Chernihiv Research Center for the Anthropology of War. The project archive currently contains more than 350 interviews, 24 of which were included in the presented publication and were translated into English.
During the book presentation, guests will have the opportunity to chat with the book’s co-editors: Kateryna Lytvyn, Oleksandr Shevchuk, Svitlana Makhovska, Olena Boriak, Oleksandr Vasianovych, Olha Vorobei, Anastasia Pankova, Olha Berezovska, and the publication’s translator Andrii Shataliuk.
