On November 20, the Museum hosted the presentation of the music video for the song “Childhood Under the Sky of War” by Yuliia Romanusha, a native of Bakhmut. The touching visual story about a dream shared by all Ukrainian children and parents—to live in a world without war—was the result of a collaboration between students of the Bakhmut School of Arts, who were forced to leave their native city because of the war, and the musicians of the National Exemplary Band of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The video was filmed in October this year, and the War Museum was chosen as one of the symbolic filming locations, making it fitting that the clip’s presentation took place within our walls.
The event was moderated by Hanna Kovalova, Chief Specialist of the Culture Department of the Bakhmut City Council and the scriptwriter for the clip.
The Director General of the War Museum, Yurii Savchuk, delivered a welcoming address to the young performers. He emphasized how vital it is for both adults and children not to lose faith in the future during such difficult times. The Artistic Director of the Band, Colonel Ihor Bykovskyi, noted that the musicians gladly supported the idea of Iryna Bulhakova, Head of the Culture Department of the Bakhmut City Council, to combine the voices of children and the professional power of military musicians in one composition.
Museum researcher Iryna Kotsabiuk stated that the presented song is a true artistic document of the era, a symbol of the unbroken spirit of the children from Bakhmut.
The young performers present at the event promised that the next piece they will work on will be dedicated to peace and victory.
The lyrics of “Childhood Under the Sky of War” are born from pain and faith, because the war continues to interfere with the lives of millions of Ukrainian children, but even despite this, they dream of a bright future.
