How often do we create handwritten texts in the modern world? Nowadays, the keyboard is actively replacing the pen and notebook, as the popularity of gadgets has grown significantly over the past few decades.
About 80 years ago, handwritten texts, including documents, were essential during the Second World War. Join our class "History written in Pen" to travel back to a Ukrainian school in the 1930s and 1940s. You will learn about the subjects studied and how Soviet schoolchildren wrote, and you will consider the importance of calligraphic handwriting. We will also discuss correspondence as a widely used form of communication and analyze samples of handwritten documents.
After the thematic lecture, you will participate in a pen and ink workshop, where you will try calligraphic exercises and write a text. This is an excellent chance to connect with history and apply the skills you learn to your daily life.
