On July 12, the Museum hosted a solemn ceremony of awarding the Petro Tronko Award of the National Union of Local History Scholars of Ukraine. The event brought together researchers from various corners of our country. The award is presented for significant contributions to the study, research, and popularization of the historical and cultural heritage of local communities.
In his opening speech, Yurii Savchuk, Director General of the Museum, emphasized the valuable contribution of local history researchers to contemporary historical scholarship and expressed hope for continued fruitful cooperation between the Museum and the Union.
Oleksandr Reient, Head of the National Union of Local History Scholars of Ukraine, highlighted the importance of the event and the achievements of the laureate scholars. He also invited those present to watch a documentary about Petro Tronko. The film about the prominent researcher features interviews with his academic colleagues, including Oleksandr Reient himself, Leonid Huberskyi, Borys Oliinyk, and others.
This year’s Petro Tronko Award laureates are researchers from different regions: Liudmyla Babenko from Poltava region, Oleksandr Shamrai from Cherkasy region, Oleksandr Tryhub from Mykolaiv region, Anatolii Nahrebetskyi from Vinnytsia region, and posthumously, Yurii Teliachyi from Khmelnytskyi region. Thanks to their shared love for their work and native land, the award ceremony turned into a warm meeting of colleagues.
Additionally, Yurii Savchuk led the guests on a curatorial tour of the exhibition "...beyond the borders of our native land", which emerged as a result of the Museum’s expedition to the Kursk region at the height of the Kursk operation by Ukraine’s Defense Forces. This project reflects not only the realities of the current war on the territory of the aggressor state but also depicts a broader historical portrait of the Sloboda Ukraine.
We congratulate this year’s laureates of the Award and look forward to new meetings!
