On the second anniversary of the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant by russian invaders
On June 6 at 15:00, there will be a screening of the documentary film "Save" at the War Museum.
On this day in 2023, russian troops committed one of the greatest crimes against the civilian population of Ukraine, as well as one of the most massive acts of ecocide in history. As a result of the deliberate destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant dam, approximately 16,000 people and 80 settlements were affected by the disaster.
The lives and destinies of thousands of Ukrainians were destroyed. The documentary film "Save" is based on the story of Opanas Dermenzhi, a renowned Ukrainian architect who designed, among other things, the legendary Antonivsky Bridge.
After the dam was blown up, Opanas Dermenzhi and his wife Mariia were forced to flee their home in Oleshky, trapped between russian occupation forces and high water that washed away roads and flooded houses.
Following the screening, a discussion will take place with the film’s director, Maksym Khotilenko, who will share the behind the scenes stories and answer questions from the audience.
