"Signs of Ukrainian Identity: Continuity of Traditions"

Children at the Museum / Events / 12 May 2025

On April 30, the results of the art competition "Signs of Ukrainian Identity: Continuity of Traditions", which ran from March to April 2025, were announced. The event was initiated and organized by the War Museum as part of the exhibition "Sign on the Shield", with support from the Kyiv City Methodological Center of Cultural and Educational Institutions. Participants included children and teenagers aged 8 to 17, competing in four age categories.

Over several months, young artists visited the museum exhibition dedicated to the history of the Sign of the Princely State of Volodymyr the Great. Inspired by the display, artifacts, drawings by Mykola Bytynsky, and representations of the Trident in folk art, each participant created their image of the Trident, pouring their creativity and talent into their work.

In total, 71 artworks were submitted. The jury selected the 25 best entries based on the competition’s criteria, and their creators were awarded prizes.

The award ceremony was held at the War Museum. Members of the jury delivered welcome speeches, including Oksana Yankovenko, Merited Worker of Culture of Ukraine and Deputy Director General of the Museum; Anton Logov, Merited Artist of Ukraine and Lead Artist of the Museum; and Oksana Mazur-Posvaliuk, Head of the Department of Fine Arts and Instructor at the Kyiv Academy of Arts named after M. I. Chemberzhi.

Winners and prize recipients received diplomas and a special gift from the Museum – a trip to the Pedestal observation platform of the Motherland Monument. The ceremony concluded with a performance by multi-instrumentalist, kobzar, and member of the band Khoreya Kozatska, Sviatoslav Sylenko .

The Museum sincerely thanks all participants and their teachers for taking part in the competition, as well as the Kyiv City Methodological Center of Cultural and Educational Institutions – and in particular, Kateryna Sauk – for supporting the Museum’s initiative.

The winning and finalist entries will be featured on the Museum’s official social media pages.
