We once again gathered the favorite performers of the whole country on the Museum stage at the foot of the sculpture “Motherland Monument” for the sole purpose of honoring our soldiers, testifying to the continuity of the armed struggle of the Ukrainian people, raising spirits and inflaming hearts.
Performers included The National Exemplary Band of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Band of the Kyiv Presidential Honor Guard Battalion, the Academic Song and Dance Ensemble of the National Guard of Ukraine, Sofiia Nersesian, Ptashkin, Artem Loik, Bak$, “Garda” Band, Bah.roma, Vlad Bulakh and Valeriia Okhtyrchanka. They performed their own compositions written during the war, as well as famous rifle songs from the times of the Ukrainian War of Independence and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA). The evening was hosted by Ukrainian actor and serviceman Harik Bircha.
The most cherished guests on this festival day were those thanks to whom we are currently able to live and realize ambitious projects – our Defenders, male and female.
The festival founder, Director General of the War Museum Yurii Savchuk, Executive Director of the “Ukrainian Fulbright Circle” Natalia Moussienko and Lieutenant colonel Volodymyr Starokin opened the evening short but apt speeches.
Yurii Savchuk revealed the slogan “Song as a Weapon” and emphasized that “Surma” is, first of all, respect fighting spirit and gratitude to our defenders.
Natalia emphasized the importance of supporting such projects as the museum festival, in especially in times of war, because such events in artistic form reflect the century-old struggle of our people and unite society around common values.
Lieutenant colonel Volodymyr Starokin, an officer from the Cultural Support Section of the Morale Support Directorate of the Personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, pointed out that this year’s event had a unique component: an incredible number of military bands on one stage. This fact noted the unity of the army, culture and the entire Ukrainian people.
This large-scale idea was realized with the help of partners of the Ukrainian Fulbright Circle, Autodim “Atlant”, “Suspilne Kultura”, and the companies “ONE MUSIC”, “Screen Production”, and “Figaro Family Group”.
The media partner of this event “Suspilne Kultura” is preparing a television version of the festival and soon everyone will be able to feel the connection between generations through song.
We look forward to seeing you at the annual museum festival of military music, “Surma”, where the tradition of song comes alive!
