Memory of Volunteers Fallen During Evacuation

Museum Life / 17 March 2026

Volunteers from the NGO “Eastern Brotherhood” have donated “decorations” to the Museum from a Christmas tree they personally installed in the frontline city of Kramatorsk on the eve of the 2026 New Year.

This year, the tree was adorned not with traditional ornaments, but with photographs of volunteers who lost their lives while evacuating civilians from particularly dangerous settlements in the Donetsk region. A symbolic garland featuring the smiling faces of young people—who followed their hearts’ calling to help residents of frontline communities—served not only as a reminder of the losses but also as a plea to cherish one’s own life and value the efforts of those who risk everything daily to save others. Often, the refusal to evacuate or delaying the process complicates future rescue operations or renders them impossible. An “Evacuation” sticker from a volunteer vehicle highlights the core mission of those whose courage and self-sacrifice have saved thousands of lives.

The photographs and artifacts donated to the War Museum will become part of the permanent collection, serving as evidence of the sacrifice and bravery of people who, without weapons in their hands, faced danger every day to rescue others.
