The Director General of the Museum, Yurii Savchuk, delivered a lecture titled “The War Museum during the War” at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio).

This educational institution was founded in 1809 and is one of the ten oldest universities in the United States. Its campus enrolls over 18,000 students. The university has served as the alma mater for U.S. President Benjamin Harrison, Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Chung Un-chan, 16 congressmen, 8 governors, and 3 Pulitzer Prize laureates.

The lecture by the Museum’s head was organized by the Havighurst Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies at the initiative of the director of the Center’s Lithuanian Program, Professor of Anthropology Neringa Klumbyte. The Director of the Havighurst Center, Professor of History Stephen Norris, also joined the meeting with faculty and students of Miami University. Symbolically, the event took place in Harrison Hall – a university building named after the U.S. President who spent his student years there.

The Director General of the Museum spoke about the fundamental transformations the institution is undergoing during the period of full-scale Russian invasion, establishing itself in a new role for itself – as a center for documenting an ongoing war. Particular emphasis was placed on the challenges the Museum faces daily as a result of Russian aggression, and despite which the Museum continues to fulfill its important societal missions.

We sincerely thank the Havighurst Center and personally Professor Neringa Klumbyte for their attention to Ukraine, to the work of the Museum, and for the opportunity to present it at one of the leading centers of science and education in the United States. We will be glad to develop further comprehensive cooperation.
