The recent opening of the “Indomitable Ukraine” exhibition in London, dedicated to the realities of the current war, became an excellent opportunity to strengthen ties between our institution and the United Kingdom’s leading military-historical organization — the Imperial War Museum.
This network of five museums, headquartered in London, was founded in the midst of the First World War in 1917 and today preserves a collection of more than 33 million artifacts from the wars of the 20th and 21st centuries.
The Director General of the Imperial War Museum, Caro Howell, attended the presentation of the “Indomitable Ukraine” exhibition and, the very next day, welcomed the team of the War Museum together with her colleagues at her institution.British specialists shared with their counterparts from Kyiv their experience in curatorial, collection management, and educational work. As a token of remembrance of this meeting, Yurii Savchuk, Director General of the War Museum, presented the head of the British institution with an exclusive souvenir — a pin made from the steel of the trident on the "Motherland Monument".
At the conclusion of the visit, the Ukrainian museum professionals toured the Imperial War Museum’s exhibitions on the First and Second World Wars, which attract hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world each year.
International cooperation and the integration of the Museum into the European cultural space are among the key priorities of our institution. The participation of Swedish museum workers turned the event into a small-scale international conference. We sincerely thank our colleagues from London for their support and exchange of experience. The knowledge gained will undoubtedly prove invaluable in the process of our institution’s development and growth.
