Recently, the Museum hosted a commemorative event honouring the memory of Dmytro Yehizarov, who fell in defence of Ukraine. The event was dedicated to the second anniversary of the warrior’s death and marked the occasion of his being awarded the highest state distinction — the title of Hero of Ukraine.
Soldier Dmytro Yehizarov became the first serviceman of the 33rd Separate Mechanized Brigade to be awarded the Order of the Gold Star.
In civilian life, Dmytro was a successful entrepreneur, a graduate of the Vadym Hetman Kyiv National Economic University, and a father of three. Despite having no prior military experience, after the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion he voluntarily joined the Defence Forces of Ukraine, enlisting in the 33rd Separate Mechanized Brigade. He served as an operator in an anti-tank guided missile unit equipped with Stugna systems. His call sign, “Kok” [Cook], came from his passion for cooking.
The brigade motto Sine Metu — Latin for “Without Fear” — became Dmytro’s guiding principle in the war. He fought in Zaporizhzhia during the summer offensive of 2023, including near Sofiivka, Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, Orikhiv, and Verbove. He later served in Donetsk Oblast near Kurakhove. Despite numerous wounds and concussions, he always returned to the ranks.
On 20 June 2024, near the village of Peremoha in Donetsk Oblast, Dmytro fought his final battle. On the Pokrovsk–Kurakhove axis, he stopped a mechanized breakthrough by one of the units of the russian occupation forces, personally destroying four enemy tanks. According to a report by the General Staff, Dmytro’s unit accounted for all enemy armoured vehicles destroyed along that section of the front line that day.
On 3 June 2026, Dmytro Yehizarov was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.
At the Museum, his family, comrades-in-arms, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances remembered Dmytro as a son, father, husband, brother, and friend. He was purposeful, fair-minded, and professionally demanding, yet at the same time generous, always smiling, warm, and full of dreams — a person with a Ukrainian heart, who loved and valued life above all.
We remember.
