On the Day of Unity of Ukraine, in the exhibition space "...beyond the borders of our native land", a special redemption of the block of postage stamps "Ukrainian clothes. Kursk region. Belgorod region. Kuban" took place, dedicated to the anniversary of the signing by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the Decree "On the Territories of the Russian Federation Historically Inhabited by Ukrainians." This document became a response to the Kremlin’s distortion of the history and national identity of Ukrainians in russia, particularly on the lands historically inhabited by them in the Kuban, Starodub region, Northern and Eastern Sloboda Ukraine.
The new sheet continues the "Ukrainian Folk Costumes" series, which Ukrposhta launched in 2001. Each stamp displays a unique national costume worn for a specific holiday in the corresponding region.
The redemption ceremony was attended by the General Director of Ukrposhta, Igor Smelyansky, the Director General of the War Museum, Yurii Savchuk, and the author of the new issue—Honored Artist of Ukraine, Mykola Kochubey.
The significance of exploring Ukrainian history was highlighted by Igor Smelyansky, who expressed hope that these stamps, like others, would possess the ability to predict the future and that historical memory would ultimately be restored.
Yurii Savchuk emphasized the historical significance of this day because on January 22, not only was the Unification Act of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and the West Ukrainian People’s Republic proclaimed in 1919, but also the year before that, the Fourth Universal was signed, in which Ukraine was declared to the whole world as an "independent, free of anyone, free sovereign state of the Ukrainian people." Now, we understand that only independence guarantees the unity of Ukraine. Only unity is a guarantee of the existence of our state.
"This is a kind of artistic protest against russia’s aggressive policy," its author, artist Mykola Kochubey, said about the new block of stamps, "because by reporting the truth about Ukrainian history, we are helping the fight against the aggressor."
Thus, the Museum and the postal operator work together to debunk the myths created by russia.
The new stamp is now available for purchase at Ukrposhta branches. At the War Museum, you are welcome to visit an exhibition about the Ukrainian history of the Kursk region.
