Special Lecture "Between Land and the Black Sea: The Defence of Odesa in 1941"

Events / 8 August 2026

We invite you to explore the history of the 73-day defence of Odesa, one of the most dramatic episodes of 1941. Together, we will examine how the outnumbered Coastal Army held the city against advancing German and Romanian forces, the daily challenges faced by its residents, and why the well-organised defence ultimately ended with the evacuation and surrender of the city.

To provide a deeper understanding of the historical context, the lecture will feature unique materials and artefacts from the War Museum’s collection.
