The War Museum presented the publication "Historical portrait of Sloboda Ukraine: Kursk region" in the cities of Kharkiv and Sumy.
Last year in December, the War Museum published a catalog of the exhibition "...beyond the border of our native land". The idea of its creation arose with the beginning of the defense operation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Kursk region, and during the work on the implementation of the project, unique documents were found and unknown pages of Ukrainian history were revealed, which the museum staff presented in the exposition. The book became not just an album-catalogue of the exhibition, but a full-fledged archeographic publication, which aroused great interest not only of scientists and researchers, but also of society in general.
Yurii Savchuk, Director General of the War Museum, organized the presentation of the publication " Historical portrait of Sloboda Ukraine: Kursk region" in Kharkiv and Sumy. He was joined by the project partners: Director of the TsDAVO of Ukraine, Doctor of Sciences in History, Larisa Levchenko, Director of TsDIAK of Ukraine, PhD, Yaroslav Faizulin, scientific editor of the publication, Doctor of Sciences in History, Valerii Tomazov, and Acting Director of M. F. Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum PhD Olha Soshnikova.
The presentation took place with the organizational support and personal participation of the officer on special assignments Major General of the SSU Yulia Laputina, who also acted as the moderator of the event.
In the city of Kharkiv, a team of scientists also talked about the idea, the process of creation, and the content of the publication for two local radio stations: Radio Ukraine and "Nakypilo".
The event was held in the city of Sumy with the support of Volodymyr Artiukh, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration.
During the presentation, Yurii Savchuk said that an updated and expanded edition of the catalog is being prepared, which will include new documents from the history of Kursk region.
About the publication. "Historical portrait of Sloboda Ukraine: Kursk region" is a catalog of the exhibition "...beyond the border of our native land", presented on September 6, 2024, exactly one month after the start of the operation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in Kursk region, an exposition that documented the events of the war on this special section of the front. The exhibition highlights the realities of the return of hostilities to the territory of the aggressor state.
Together with the team of the Museum, the scientists worked out separate sections, where the history of northeastern Sloboda Ukraine is reflected in the language of artifacts and historical sources: from the settlement of Kursk, Belgorod and Voronezh regions by Ukrainians in the second half of the 17th century to the self-determination of the inhabitants of the region during the formation of the borders between the two Soviet republics – the Ukrainian SSR and RSFSR – in the first quarter of the 20th century. The final third section is entitled "Edge" and contains documentary footage from the museum’s expedition to Kursk region on August 15-18, 2024, which was carried out by Director General Yurii Savchuk and Museum photographer Roman Pupenko.
Most of the sources presented in the catalog have been published for the first time.
