Event in memory of Oleh Grama

The Ukrainian people respect the bright memory of the representatives of their heavenly army, and our Museum takes care of its preservation. On March 25, a meeting dedicated to the fallen captain Oleh Grama, who fought as part of the special unit "Omega" of the Northern Operational Territorial Association of the National Guard of Ukraine, took place in the exhibition space of the Memorial.

Relatives, friends and comrades-in-arms shared their memories of the defender. Anatoly’s father recalled that his son never sat still, was always in a hurry to live, and wanted to do everything in time: "In his incomplete 33 years, he lived as much as would be enough for several lifetimes." He also noted his constant concern for others, desire to protect and help. His father rereads the memorial sheet with the names of his siblings, written by Oleh after February 2022, every day in his prayers.

Having left his native town in Khmelnytskyi region, Oleh successfully completed his studies at the National Transport University, after which he took the oath and served in various units of the National Guard of Ukraine. Since 2014, he has been directly involved in the Anti-Terrorist Operation and the Joint Forces Operation.

From the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the serviceman defended the capital, later conducted reconnaissance and assault operations on the Izyum direction and in the Severodonetsk area. Brothers shared memories of those difficult days. For them, Oleh Grama always remained not only a successful soldier-commander, but above all a real person: "Fair, honest, responsible, he was always an example and support for us. One of the best people." Having suffered a severe concussion, he did not leave the battlefield, and later left the hospital earlier than the doctors required, and returned to the ranks of the defenders.

Since August, he has been successfully performing tasks in the Avdiivka direction. It was part of the Javelin ATGM application group. As part of it, on February 18, 2023, in the area of the settlement of Novobakhmutivka, he fought his last battle. At first, the enemy BMP was successfully knocked down with an aimed shot. Oleh did everything possible to stop the enemy’s infantry in close combat. Hearing the roar of the tank, together with his assistant, he found out its location - in order to destroy it. But a shell that exploded near the position ended the hero’s life.

"It was the scariest day for me. I lost the closest person, the best husband and father, who loved life very much," said his widow Oksana, who is currently raising her little daughter Anastasia by herself. In the memories of his wife, there were ordinary, but such vivid episodes of the short life of the National Guardsman: how he sought to study, mastered the English language on his own; how he loved to read and enjoyed paper books; how hour-long runs and constant wrestling training became permanent fixtures in his life. Back in 2013, he earned the title of master of sports of Ukraine in combat sambo. The coach, who lost a successful athlete and a grateful student, shared his plans to hold a tournament in memory of the fallen athletes, including Oleh.

Captain Grama’s transferred belongings became part of the museum collection. In particular, the Javelin associated with his last fight is already on display in the exhibition space "24.02". We will carefully preserve the memory of the Hero for future generations, because he will never leave Ukraine, protecting it from heaven.
